Albus Lumen Spring Summer 2019

Albus Lumen

“Let’s go on holidays now!” exclaims Marina Afonina, the founder of Australian label Albus Lumen, when asked how she felt following the highly successful inaugural presentation of her brand at Sydney Fashion Week earlier this year. This spark of excitement and wanderlust is exactly the same feeling that one gets when thumbing through her resort-inspired collections.

With a design ethos to make collections that have an air of carry-on chic, it’s little wonder the idea came to Afonina when she was holidaying in Greece and unable to find something to wear that would translate to her closet back home. “Especially for resort, it has to be the sort of thing people can take on holidays now and then in two years time and still be relevant,” she described. “Effortless, simple and wearable. Those are probably the three words I think of when I buy my clothes. And obviously, not trend-driven.”

Albus Lumen is confidence in simplicity. Latin for white light, it is not weighted down by trends, but grounded in the core elements, drawing strength from detailed minimalism. With a nod to the European summer, craftsmanship and relaxed style inform the Albus Lumen aesthetic. Simple shapes and classic modernity create subtle yet striking contrasts. Beautifully light, quietly confident, powerfully feminine.
