Five buyers on the biggest trends from MBFWA to note down now

What were your standout shows from the week?
“My standout for the week has to be Albus Lumen. It was so chic and understated. Her colour palette was incredible, the neutrals with the pop of blue were really special - I’ve also now decided I need a bucket hat. Some other great shows were Lee Matthews – very feminine and it felt fresh with the soft prints and long line silhouettes. Double Rainbouu was very different in terms of vibe but I love what they do. Double Rainbouu are dressing the young cool girl with what she wants to wear to the beach.”

What big trends should everyone take note of next?
“The standout trend for me was the brands’ use of colour. There were some really interesting neutrals alongside really understated muted pastel shades. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen camels and chocolates dominate in a more neutral palette. There have also been a lot of long maxi lengths but I love that they’re being done in a more modern way vs it being bohemian which is more traditional. There has also been some beautiful soft prints. Lee Matthews being a favourite, We Are Kindred also had some pretty floral prints. There was also a lot more tailoring than what we’ve seen before which make sense based on what we’ve seen on a global level. Finally, the puff sleeve, I think it will only grow in prominence as an emerging trend.”
Eva Galambos, owner and buyer Parlour X and one of the 2018 NSW ‘Faces of Fashion’
What were your standout shows from the week?
“Romance Was Born and St George Next Gen were my shows of the week. Romance was an incredible, surrealistic experience with cool-yet-commercial pieces. Also, what a brilliant location concept and experience! Chris Ran Lin is an absolute star. He blew me away. The brand exudes the right amount of polished suiting with a distinctive twist and ultimately it’s really wearable. Chris’s usage of woven and knitwear was outstanding. “

What were your standout shows from the week?
“Albus Lumen was exceptionally beautiful, Marina’s study of Pablo/Paloma and Spain were portrayed through every detail. From the runway set of clay pots in terracotta tones and large canvas draped around the perimeter of the room, to the models with plaited hair and earthy makeup. We saw rich tones of brown and green then lighter hues of plush and cornflower blue. The collection covered pieces we dream of having as a traveller - cropped billowy pants, relaxed suiting, silk floor length dresses, cotton oversized shirting and those mini ring bags. Another show, was Christopher Esber’s, held at the Paddington furniture showroom of MCM, Esber captured the spirit of the woman in summer, how she feels and what she wants to be wearing - flat sandals, ankle skimming dresses with thigh high splits accented in lace, tasselled skirts and simple dresses with detailed bare-back. For me this collection was coming back to Esber’s identity and it was wonderful.
