Balenciaga FW24

The Paris Fashion Week star-studded affair that is the Balenciaga Fall/Winter 2024 show by Demna gave us ironic luxury that questioned itself and its position within our current digitally native society.

Set in the historic Dome des Invalides, the Balenciaga show, of course, brought out the A-listers, with the nearby roads blocked up by countless black-tinted Mercs and SUVs. Brand ambassador Kim Kardashiansat next to Salma Hayek, the wife of the President of the Kering group. Luka Sabbat, mother-daughter duo Lisa Rinna and Amelia GrayHari NefRachel SennottPaloma ElsesserAshley GrahamSerena Williams, Juyeon of THE BOYZPP Krit, and many more found their seat on the front row.

The dishevelled, done-undone aesthetic was portrayed throughout the collection, where gloves were not used on hands, but rather laid over, and dust bags were used for tops. We also saw scotch-tape wrapped around outfits, while some models looked like they had thrown on their entire selection of skinny-strap tank tops. The final look — a dress constructed out of heaps and heaps of underwear — brought a new meaning to outerwear, amplifying the thongs sticking out of sweatpants look we saw at the Balenciaga LA show late last year.

Throughout the collection, Demna’s signature codes came through. We saw models adopting the signature Balenciaga stomp-and-frown, domineering walk, whilst wearing intentionally messy-layered suits, backpack outfits, and subculturally-informed pieces. The bootlegging technique that made Demna so famous in the first place also returned to the runway, with eBay logo-adorned tops, echoing the unique eBay finds show invites we all received prior to the show.

Valentino Noir 2024-25

This weekend in Paris, Brand Ambassador Jolin Tsai and friends of the house Maria Sharapova, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Adut Akech, Gracie Abrams and Molly Gordon were seen at the Hôtel de Maisons for the Maison’s latest show

We’ve all come to know and love the signature Rosso Valentino colour, but for Fall/Winter 2024-25, Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli is scrapping it, presenting his Valentino Le Noir collection.

With a name like that, you’d expect a collection entirely shown in black, and that’s exactly what Maison Valentino did. The choice of going black was inspired by the French Poet Charles Baudelaire’s quote that reads “Black is the uniform of democracy.” In this collection, black was not looked as a void nor lack of colour, but rather as a blank canvas that served as the starting point for Pierpaolo Piccioli’s painting of the new collection. Take a look below at the key looks.

Rediscover the entire collection now at the link

Layers of ruched detailing effortlessly fell on top of themselves, gracing floor-length gowns, one modelled by the iconic Vittoria Ceretti, and above-the-knee dresses. These looks merged solid and sheer layers, using skin to provide further contrast to the chic, monochrome palette. Thanks to its layered detailing, these layered ensembles moved with each stride taken by its wearer. These were packed with an eveningwear-appropriate personality, and we won’t be forgetting them in a hurry.

Fashion Designer Alice McCall - Power to the People

     Fashion Designer Alice McCall

    POWER TO THE PEOPLE

Alice McCall is an Australian fashion designer born in London. Her career in London’s fashion scene started as a successful stylist for celebrities like Kelis, Marianne Faithfull and Blondie along with international brands like MTV, Rimmel, Nike and Levi’s. She also worked for notable fashion publications like I-D Magazine and Dazed & Confused.

In the 1990s, Alice McCall was instrumental in launching Kate Moss’s career. Kate Moss caught her lucky break when she was snapped wearing McCall’s designs. Soon, she was hunted down by high-end streetwear brand Buddhist Punk for whom she designed her first ever collection. McCall’s spring summer collection of 2002 became internationally successful. She met designers Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton of Sass and Bide in Ibiza. She returned to Australia where she started working as a designer for Sass and Bide in 2003.

McCall traded her successful career as a stylist in order to become a full time fashion designer in 2004. She launched her first eponymous label that same year at the Australia Fashion Week. The eponymous label Alice McCall was an overnight success and she hasn’t looked back since then. Alice went on to present her collections at the London and New York fashion weeks which were also very successful. The Australian designer’s brand is currently stocked in over 165 boutiques and specialty stores across the globe in UK, Middle East, US and Asia Pacific regions.

Alice’s outfits are designed while keeping in mind the modern woman of today. She is pretty and feminine but also strong. Alice’s outfits are known for its Bohemian youthfulness that adds a touch of sexiness and modernity to her jump suits, party dresses and uber chic statement pieces. In 2010, McCall’s first flagship store opened its doors at Darlinghurst in Sydney followed by another store on Pitt Street in Sydney Westfield and one in South Yarra, Melbourne.

McCall has also created diffusion collections in collaboration with big names of the industry. For Target she designed a collection that was sold out hours after the launch. McCall also designed a diffusion line called Gracie in partnership with General Pants Company. Last but not the least; she joined forces with fashion juggernaut of UK, Topshop for whom she designed two sell-out collections consisting of nine pieces each.
